MG MGF Technical - alarm problem

Hi,

Within last few months I have found that sometimes my car alarm is going off.
Since November after someone broke the passanger's window to steal my radio at my driveway I parked my car in garage and sometimes when I close the door or open it using remote the alarm goes off.

Then, few times I left car at work and out of blue the car alarm went off.

I don't know what is the reason? I have read some ealier threads about alarm problems and here are also my notices.

Someone has written that it can be wire loom problem (the wires at the left hinge in the boot lid) can be damaged and this is the reason.
From my point of view and I think it was from the very beginning I could open the bootlid using a key without unlocking the car and the alarm didn't go off. Simply in my opinion opening the bootlid doesn't trigger the alarm. Or maybe my car has fault from new.
Correct me if I am wrong.

I have also read that it can be fault with passanger doorlock. I think here is a clu.
Sometimes when I try to close the doors depressing the door sill button only driver doors are closed, passangers door sill button don't go down. It stared to happen a ,month lated after someone broke the window. I think that I had removed all the broken glass from the door but maybe something has left which I haven't noticed.
Ealier - two years ago the passangers door were removed to painting and I have also the same problem with door lock but alarm didn't go off and locking problems has vanished a month later.

Does someone tried to remove the lock and checked what is wrong with it?

or maybe you have other suggestion.

ps.
The battery is brand new, please note that it is a LHD MG so I described it from my point of view.

Opening the trunk with the key and not triggering the alarm is normal, as the key operates a switch in the lock.

I think you have a problem with the door lock mechanism by the way you describe all the symptoms.

I agree with Johan sounds as though the breaking of the glass may of broken a wire within the door or even have damaged the door lock.

Marius,

As Johan says, "Opening the trunk with the key and not triggering the alarm is normal, as the key operates a switch in the lock"

However, I had a similar problem, but with the driver's door. The alarm would go off at anytime!
The wiring loom connection pins and the internal microswitches inside the lock itself had corroded due to ingress of water, and I had to replace the whole lock. I did strip down the old lock afterwards just to see what it was like inside. I think it might be possible to do the same with the passenger lock, but this is only a guess. I have heard of others doing this and cleaning all the contacts to get it to work okay.

Be aware that if your car is an early model and you buy a replacement lock, the wiring loom may have changed - it did for the driver's door lock. (See http://www.apttony.co.uk/Servicing/Servicing.html )

Thanks for advice.
Two years ago when I had problem with locking the door by depressing the door sill button I dismantled the driver's lock. It looked OK.
This time not ealier then on Tuesday I will dismantle passangers lock and see any signs of corrosion and I will clean all contacts. Hope it works and save few pennies.

BTW its MGF Trophy so the door lock model should be a new version.

hi i had this problem on my vvc the black wire on the door latch mechanism going to the multi plug had snapped (i think it is an earth )it was making contact intermittantly thus setting off alarm!! all you need to do is find which wire is snapped and solder it on to the other end bypassing the plug.
hope this helps as it drove me nuts!!!!
