MG MGF Technical - Alarm tilt sensor add-on

Hi all,

My insurance company requires me to install a anti-theft alarm, including a tilt sensor. Today I asked my dealer for the possibilities to expand the original alarm system with a tilt sensor. They told me this is possible, but when they named the price, they had to catch me from fainting ;( It will cost me 700 Euro (about 500 Pounds). These are the costs for a complete new aftermarket alarm!!!

Does anybody know if this add-on sensor can be bought seperately somewhere, so I can build it in myself. Then afterwards I quess I'll have to get the dealer to activate the sensor, using testbook.

Greetings,
Alex

Alex,

May be cheaper to change insurance companies!

for tilt switches.

To wire in:

For 'vibrate to make' switch connect between ground and the "black with purple stripe" wire under the bonnet or the "Purple with red stripe" wire in the boot. Both of these wires will run thru the loom to the central console. The switch must be able to run enough current for a 5w bulb, or should be wired onto a MOSFET (ask if unsure)

Question is........

Would an insurance company accept a home-made modification, all be it a damned good one!

Indeed, I don't think the insurance company accepts a home-made modification. I have been trying to find an insurance company accepting the alarm as it is, but I haven't had any luck...

The option offered by the MG-Rover dealer seems the best one. This way I can keep using the original remote key, instead of two, when installing an aftermarket system. It's just that I think I am being ripped off by having to pay as much as for a complete aftermarket system, including installation. Therefore, I am trying to find out if I can buy the tilt sensor somewhere, and then have it tested by the dealer.

The F doesn't have a tilt sensor, it has a volumetric sensor (uses mircrowaves to detect intrusion).

If you don't have one fitted then it might be cheaper to buy a second hand alarm ECU, fobs, and sensor from MGF Center, you'd have to get the MEMS reprogrammed by the stealer, or you could get the MEMS from the same car. AFAIK all F's in the UK had the sensor as standard except for the 1.6

Hello Alex,

>>> I have been trying to find an insurance company accepting the alarm as it is, but I haven't had any luck. <<<
Sounds very strange to me... have a chat with some other Dutch F/TF owners at the other, more local, forums:
http://www.mgf.be (or direct: http://mgf.mobitronics.net )
http://www.mg-r.nl
(mgf.be being the most active).

BTW, this board is still the mother of all boards and MGF/TF knowledge ;o)
