MG MGF Technical - Alarm update
Hi again, Last week i posted a question about my alarm not arming the volumetric sensor. Here is a brief update 1. Checked wiring loom on the boot hinge, all OK. 2. Checked boot light not on all the time, all OK. 3. Double checked the volumetric sensor (by putting my laptop in car 'through the roof' (with windows up) and no joy. Any other ideas?? Thanks |

Is the rest of your alarm oke? for example: does it sound when you open the door while single locked. Allard |

Can't remember your previous post, so not sure if this stuff's been covered before, but has the volumetric ever worked? Is the Car a UK car or JAP import (these don't have volumetric) You can check for the volumetric sensor behind the t bar inbetween the seats. failing that the sensitivity may need increacing. this is a dealer test book job. |

The alarm works when single locked and the car is a UK car. Think it will be a trip to the dealer :-( |

Have you tried waiting for a while (the sensor does not switch on straight away) and then passing your hand directly over the center of the Tbar (which is where the sensor is) |
Will Munns |
Just tried passing and hitting the T bar still no joy! waited for about a minute before trying :-( |

Quite possible that the sensitivity has been set 'off' through Testbook or T4. Remember you have an ability in the method of setting to disable volumetric arming when you arm via the key in the door lock. The lack of volumetric cover may also be an indicator of a fault within the system. Read the handbook for full details, but note correct arming of the alarm will be accompanied by a single flash of the indicator. Superlocking will also fail to operate if there is a fault. Rog |

Thanks Roger wiill dig out my handbook when i get home and see if I can sort it |
Mark Catterall |
Rog Just reread your post and the alarm is flashing once for single push of the lock button (on the fobb) and four times for double push, is this correct?? Thanks Mark |
Mark Catterall |
Correct arming of the alarm (stage 1, 1st press) will be a single flash of the indicators, and you'll hear the doors lock. Pressing the arm button twice (from unlocked) will superlock the car, resulting in you seeing the indicators flash 4 times (maybe only 3, can't remember), and you'll hear the doors lock, then click again as they superlock. IIRC, if the superlocking's shafted, you'll only get the one flash. I was going to mention the Jap import no volumetric thing (as no-one steals cars over there apparently), however Kingsly's bet me to it! Textbook sounds good bet, or unplugged! Whip off the 'T' bar and see if you can see it's my advice. (3 screws / studs on top and lift it up and forward off the poppers). HTH, Leigh |

OK update 2! Bloody alarm has gone off for no reason now, reset a nd tested after 5mins still no joy left another hour and tested alarm, it whent off! Ok I'm confused |

Please help, my alarm goes off for almost no reason. Sometimes when a car goes past, sometimes when there is almost nothing. I have tried disconecting the sensor which is between and behind the seats, but this does not work. Any ideas what else it could be Please help John |
John |
>Sometimes when a car goes past The car has no sensor that should pick this up, have you left the mobile in the car, local sorce of microwaves (leaky oven, comms post etc)? Also could be the door lock sensors on the way out (do your interior lights come on?) or the boot lock sensor, or the bonnet(this one can just be disconneted and left like that to test) |
Will Munns |
hi Will, thanks for the quick response. I like your idea on the boot/bonnet sensors. Where can I find these? Many thanks John |
John |
the boot sensor is on the boot lock, but I don't know if disconnecting it reverts to on or to off. The bonnet sensor is on the left hand side, at the back behind the horns and this reverts to off (bonnet closed) when disconnected. The door locks have the switches embedded in the catch mechanism.
