MG MGF Technical - Alternatives to Goodyear f1 for Trophy

I need to replace the boots on my Trophy and there are no F1 stocks around and also hear the problems with GSD3's. The alternative make problem is the lack of a set of 195/45/16 and 215/40/16 in sizes. Bridgstone R720's sound good but the closeest is 205/45/16 for the front, has any body tried these - my assumption is that they will has less grip because of too much surface area for the weight?
Thanks

I've got GS-D3s on my F - no problems (I replaced all 4 at the same time) - but you are right, there have been reports here of unstable handling with these tyres. The reasons for this remain unclear, so I can understand your hesitancy in fitting these - but they are excellent tyres, and are well worth considering.

I had the old GSD2's on my F replaced with GSD3's and I think the new tyres are much much worse in slippery conditions. I thought the D2's were pretty good on snow and ice, for example, but the 3's are just scary.

I'll try and scrub them before next winter and change to Bridgestones....!

Go for the superb Toyo T1-S.

Yoko a539s, as they where standard fit for the lightweightgunmetal wheels and have tyre presures listed in the=manual. I've got 11K on mine and still loads of tread left. Quieter than the goodyears and
handling is great !

Ian,

Would be interesting to find heat range of road tyre, but would a agree a wider tyre has more surface area and should run cooler. A a change in tyre pressure could adjust for this.

I have Goodyears fitted to my Trophy - original D2s on the front and D3s on the back. Once the D3s were run in I have had no problems whatsoever. Wet weather grip has always been good on either tyre.
Blue Pocket Rocket

GSD3 on my trophy. Perfect is all I can say.

The Yokohama 539 is good, but the Toyo's are better in the wet, although they will wear slightly quicker.

Thames Tyres in Slough managed to get me F1's all GSD3's and did the 4 wheel alignement and It feels fine - done about 100 miles taking it steady. total for all four and alignment came to £400 so not cheap but Ricky seemed to know what hes doing. Ok the complience washers will make a big difference, but maybe thats what it needed. Incidentaly, the resulting toe in/out effect of fitting the complience washers was actually minimal i.e. + 10 and 15 min. Thanks for the advice.

I have GSD3's fitted fine, no problems at all.

GSD3's fitted to rears for £85 each from Kwik Fit (norwich), 2 months ago, fronts to follow soon. No Problems to report.
