MG MGF Technical - ANODISED ALLOY OIL COOLER FOR MGF
AS anyone used the oil cooler, the ANODISED OIL FILTER COVER TO FIT OVER YOUR OIL FILTER ,WITH THE ADDED SURFACE AREA AND FINS HELPS TO COOL THE ENGINE OIL THUS PROTECTING YOUR ENGINE FROM OVER HOT OIL. CAN BE CHANGED OVER FROM OIL FILTER TO OIL FILTER SO YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER ONE.FITTED IN MIMS THE TIME IT TAKES TO CHANGE THE OIL FILTER THANKS. |

Where did you see it Jim? Have you got a link? |

No need to shout. the filter cover *may* help if there is a cool air flow around it. As on the MGF the engine bay is always hot, you will get no benefit. |

Sounds dodgy to me !!! |

It's purely a styling accessory popular with the Max Power brigade. It has no cooling properties at all and in fact all you'll do is "insulate" the oil filter and stop and cool air reaching it. |

However, you can buy big ar*ed magnets which fit in the same place and catch anything (iron) that drops into the oil. These have some value |

I remember the oil cooler system you could buy and fit to Triumph engines. a clever but simple device. It came as a device that sits between the filter and the block and diverts the oil to an oil cooler once it hace been through the filter and back into its original place on the engine once cooled. Now that would be worth getting! |

Neil, that sounds like the usual oil cooler adapter ring - and indeed, this is how both front mounted oil/air and engine-bay Laminova oil/water coolers are plumbed in :o) A good source of these for A-series engines is from the MG Metro Turbo. No idea whether these can be used on other engines though...? Adonised fined 'heat sinks' for the oil filter canister are just aesthetic as Bob says. And since you can't see it fitted on the F, it really would be a waste of time Jim. |

Thanks guys I thought as much but you have to ask don't you! The triumph oil cooler sounds interesting, any more ideas out? |
