MG MGF Technical - Anyone after a set of 1177 pads?
I'm going to order some Mintex 1177 pads from Mintex - sets for both front and rear. Fronts weigh in at around 74 quid for a set, whereas the rears are cheaper at around 54 quid. Prices are inclusive of the dreaded VAT. minimum order is 3 sets - Fronts I have: Rob Steve Rears I have: Rob Steve Dave Anyone else out there interested in a set of pads before I confirm the order? They're going to be made to order, so expect a few week delay before delivery... |

Where do I sign.....? Rears only. This might redress the bias issue.... (and there the cheapie ones) |

LOL, no, not 3 sets each Tim! ;o) Okay - list now stands at Fronts: 1. Rob 2. Steve Rear: 1. Rob 2. Steve 3. Dave 4. Tim 5. Paul Crikey - going to have to give some serious thought as to how best to handle the order. Easier if I pay and you guys give me a cheque? |

Rob , Why not go for EBC Green ? cheaper and better than Mintex. Also if for track day use , EBC Red or Race Yellow Robert |

Hi Robert, A couple of reasons for not using the EBS ones... I don't believe you can get EBC yellow for the 'F. At least, you couldn't when I last looked years ago. Personally I wasn't interested in the red stuff... although I seem to remember SF tried them out? The only reason we all started using 1177s was that the sprint regs prohibited braking "upgrades". The pad material was free. So a couple of us took the lead of others who were doing the full race series and using 1177s. They knew what they were doing. I copied. :) And why not use EBC green? The same reason I don't use Mintex 1144s: I want more stopping power and am willing to pay the price of regular disk changes and some squealing. 1177s don't suit all people. P. |

Robert Mintex M1177 has a cof .61 (dropping off a little after 500 degrees C but still holding a massive .55 c.o.f at 700 degrees C) Greenstuff offhand are cof .45 and 550deg, which is only "fast road" spec, and they do not provide a good selection of rear pads. Paul |

Cheers Mike - I'll drop you a line :o) |

Bong, Rob how do you want to work this? |

%&£@!!!! Sorry, forgot to update the thread, but the company now wants a minimum order of 10. :o( Steve, I suggest you order your front pads from Mike, as we discussed, but I'll continue working away trying to get an answer on the rear pads (which I'm told are Mintex 1177/1s - quite how these differ from 1177s I am not sure??? Anyone know?) |
Rob Bell |
Rob , I'll take a set of rears if you need to make up numbers Mike |
Mike (London Office) |
Cheers Mike, that brings us close to the magic number: Rear: 1. Rob 2. Steve 3. Dave 4. Tim 5. Paul 6. Mike |

I have a 2000 MGF VVC and have to replace (So I am told by the dealer) Front discs and pads and rear pads. I only use the car for road journeys but am not overawed by the stopping power. I was thinking about upgrading to EBC Green, is this a good investment or is there something else I should go for. Any advice would be gratefully received. Paul |

I'm not the worlds greatest fan of EBC greenstuff pads on the MGF Paul - I didn't find their performance to be massively better than the original pads, and they didn't stand up to track day use at all well :o( The grooved EBC discs ARE a good idea however - but I'd use them in combination with Mintex1144 pads. |
