MG MGF Technical - Anyone in Wiltshire area?

I know this is a bit of a cheek but is there anyone around the Wiltshire area that could give me a hand with my passenger footwell leaks, ive tried going from the bonnet side (removing the plastic gaurd thing) but cant get down behind the air box. Ive read some threads on here saying go from inside by removing the glove box but im so scared of cocking it up. I know im hopeless but theres no harm in asking is there?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Don't be afraid. All you need is a philips screw driver, undo two screws under the glove box, open the glove box lid and undo the two on the upper edge. Drop the glove box down slowly and release the wires connecting the glove box light. Place it to one side and as you look under the dash you will see the heater box and sponge 'seal'. Apply sealant. Reverse for fitting it back. More wet weather on its way. I've had my F for 4 years and it decided to leak the other day. Takes about 20 minutes.

Ok ive taken the glove box off and the big air pipe and can see the seal 2 the heater box, but the whole sponge seal is soaked and i cant see that putting sealant round will stop it coming through the sponge when it gets so wet. It looks as though its coming in at the back of the pipe where it meets the metal body work and not where the pipe fits in. Anyway i'll give the sealant thing a go and see what happens.

I also had leaks in boot but i changed the gaskets around the light clusters and it seemed 2 have cured it but had a look 2day and they look like they are almost leaking again, only changed the gaskets a month ago, surely they should last longer than this!

Its really starting 2 get me down now as you think youve cured one problem only for it 2 come back later.

No-one left in Swindon. They've all been transferred to Slough. - but at least I got promoted.

Gary,

See the thread entitled "Soggy passenger footwell, that old chestnut", further down the board. This will give you detailed instructions on how to fix the leak. Really quite a simple job (although a little uncomfortable when you're lying upside down with your head in the passenger footwell!)

Good luck, hope you sort the problem soon.

yeah thanks Jim, i did notice that thread and had a look. I gave it a go the other day, it looks better (no drips on the mats) but i need 2 get the sound proofing out and get it dry b4 i can tell if its actually stoped the leak. Also i think ive used the wrong stuff 2 seal it with, my local halfords only do this tiny tube of silicone sealant which wasnt enough.
Gary

Hi Gary,

When I went to Halfords I saw the small tube of sealant that I think you're talking about, but in the same section was a larger cylinder of sealant, with an attachable nozzle for £8.99. This gave me plenty to do the job.

Hope you're now watertight!
