MG MGF Technical - Anyone know about Bridgestone b500si's on the MGF

Hi all

very instructive BBS for aiding relationship with recently acquired 1996 MGF VVC (after 5 years of a 67 MGBGT, it has been a delight). A big thankyou to all those who have offered advice on the BBS, all most instructive.

MY MGF was recently imported from Japan and has 205/50s front and rear (apparently a big mistake!?! which I will have to correct soon).

Anyhow, the tyres are Bridgestone b500si - does anyone know whether these are tyres are OK for MGF ?? - I find no mention of them in archives.

thanks, Lindsey

you don't say what diameter wheels you have, but I have absolutely no problem with 205/50 x16 all round.
Not heard of that particular model of Bridgestone, we probably don't get it in the UK.

thanks for comment

sorry about missing information, full detail is Bridgestone b500si 205/50 R15 85V.

One of the reasons I'd like to know about these tyres is to get recommended tyre pressure - If anyoen can help I'd be really grateful

thanks again, Lindsey

Heaps of information on B500si but only if you speak Japanese. Sorry, not much help! Do you still have the BGT?

My father has a toyota hiace people carrier imported from Japan and this came with bridgestome b500 tyres - don't know whether that is good or bad - but they seem okay on the van!

Try calling Bridgestone directly and see what they say about the tyre?

If you really want to know, I can get some of the pages translated... but not until next week. Let me know if you do.

As for pressures, they should be the standard pressures for a 16" 205s. Which I don't know, but someone else here might?

I'd be quite happy with 205s all round. Just make sure and follow all the usual checks surrounding tracking etc.

The MGF Gallery at http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/ recomends 26psi front and 28psi rear for standard tyres. The B500 looks like it may be a basic touring tyre, but it may be worth trying these pressures to see what it drives like. Or maybe it is time to chuck them and get a new set of rubber. I am currently running Goodyear F1 D2s front and F1 D3s rear on my TF. Good tyres. I had Yokohama A539s on the F and these performed well. It would be worth getting the tracking checked as well, set to figures that you will find here in the BBS archives, not the standard figures that MGR recomends for the F.

I've had 205/50 R15 Bridgestone S-02s all round on my car in the past - a good combination :o)

Regarding the B500s - sorry, can't really help: sounds like a Japan only tyre?

I agree with Neil's comments regarding pressures and tracking. On the pressure front, I found that the Bridgestone's I used seem to work best at 30psi all round - something worth trying perhaps?

Thanks to everybody for their help. Will try, again, to get email response from bridgestone. Please don't go to any bother with translation. And, no, I don't have the bgt anymore. Given its condition, I can only say that was pleased to see it sold, hopefully it can go to someone who can properly care for it.

Again, thanks for all the help. will try the different pressures, and then get some new tyres if necessary.

regards, Lindsey
