MG MGF Technical - AP Caliper Repainting

Hi - Has any one ever had to repaint their Red AP racing calipers?

The ones on my 2002 TF160 have faded really badly (previous owner may have used some dodgy wheel cleaner!)

I'm going to have a go at respraying them but before I do thought I'd just check for any potential pitfalls (apart from the obvious masking off the pistions & slider bores) with you guys before I start.

Thanks - Neil

hi Neil, I brushed mine 3 coats over a sandable primer if you coat within say 10hrs each coat the paint gets a chemical key . Leave it any longer and you may have to lightly go over it with a fine steel wool not to show the sanding marks.Brushing is less hassel and easy.. I used a 10mm artist brush. Cheers Bob.

And remember to use high temperature resistant paint (although it seems that Smoothrite paint lasts reasonably well on brake calipers)

Hi,
I have just bought some new AP calipers, would it be worth coating them with a high temp laquer to prolong the finish.
Chris Catchpole

Might be worth a go - but no idea whether it will have the desired long term effect or not Chris. You'd be trail blazing with this idea. :o)

Try the kit from halfords it comes with all you need to do the job and leaves no brush marks do not mix the whole lot up at once it will harden before you can use it all use razor blade when hardened to scrap of paint on mg logo etc about £23

Is the AP Caliper conversion a straight forward bolt on , bleed up conversion or are there any tricks of the trade. Obvious new 304mm disc and pads required.
Thanks Jamie

Jamie,
Become a Member for nothing and then read the archives.
First, What wheels do you have. Will they foul the larger calipers ??
