MG MGF Technical - At last intermitant Fault has gone but

has changed to a permanent fault

After months of suffering intermitant engine faults and never managing to get it to a main dealer to show the faults the car has at last played up in the hands of the technican, so hopefully the fault will be cured.

It looks like it could be wiring with either the coil or the crank sensor but the fault had got so bad it was misfiring, rough idling and stalling and once it got to the garage they struggled to keep it going so I have left it there to hopefully fix it once and for all.

Good news in one sense Tom. I hope the fix is quick and sits well within your warrenty. Let us all know how you get on.

Perversely good news Tom, insofaras it means that the problem is there for the technicians to diagnose!!!

Hopefully normal service will resume soon!

Had a similar problem with Elise S1. Turns out to be engine ECU. (See thread on Lotus Elise technical) Although could be loads of other things. Only word of advice there are ways of not paying the £500+ for a new ECU!

Tom yes, best of luck! Hope it's something minor..

The garage had it for 2 days and have failed to find the problem, they have swapped anything which is easily swapped like ecu etc.
Although I have the car back they left it with a home made box on it which has lights which is connected I think to the injectors and coil so if there is a cut out of power the lights should flicker, so far nothing.

The car is going back in and the next thing I beleive they will do is replace the wiring loom.

I will keep everyone updated on what is happening.

Jeepers... !

I hope that the problem is identified soon. Have the garage contacted MGR for technical advice yet?

Wow - nice bit of dealer ingenuity though.

Saga continues.

Was one the way upto Techspeed for the cars 72000 miles service and for them to look into the problem and never made it as the car kept dying but would restart but after the 4/5th visit to the hard shoulder the car would not start so gave up and called the AA and got taken back to the main dealer as I could not risk the fault not being found as the AA will only get you to one detsination.

Once the car had cooled down it did start again but that was to drive it in to the garage.

Hopefully the garage can fix it this time and hopefully by tomorrow afternoon or I will be going to silverstone in a rover.

Tom

Sorry to hear about your problems - and missing out on your visit to TechSpeed. What's happening to the 72k service ?

Let's hope that S&J's diagnostics help them find the fault
and get you back on the road before this weekend.
Are you going to Silverstone Saturday or Sunday (or both?)

Steve

S&J will be doing the service while they are trying to sort out the problem.
I am going to silverstone on sunday only.
