MG MGF Technical - Aussie spring conversion

Morning all
I don't frequent this BBS much, spend more time on the MGA forum. However, I thought I'd post on my experience in fitting the Australian spring conversion to my MGF. I did the job yesterday starting at about 12:30 and finishing about 4:30. So with the exception of a couple of tricky accessability issues on the back, the installation was straight forward. I drained the system slowly by screwing a fitting onto the schrader valves: easy! I have not driven the car many KMs yet, but so far, I am very impressed. I set the shocks to the recommended 10 clicks, and it seems good, but I'll play with it a bit. The quality of the product is outstanding: beautifully made! Highly recommended. I thought I'd set the ride height to 350 all round. Do you think that's ok?
On a related topic, my Hydragas systen had sagged on one side. When I drained the units, I noticed that the fluid on that side appeared dirty, whereas the good side was as clean as new. Does this mean any thing?

Matthew,

We've fitted a few dry kits now here at the Classic Car Clinic and as you say, they are superb. We've even got them 'Complianced' up here for Qld.

Once fitted, these kits will give piece of mind (at least as far as suspension goes).

Mark.

Hi Matthew, did you finish at 4.30pm or 4.30am the next day? Just being facetious of course but you did an astounding job to complete it in four hours. Mine took the best part of two days given all the readjustments of height which I went through and finally settled on 350mm front and 340 rear with 10 clicks on the shocks. I have now done around 1500km since fitting, all through rural and mountain country and couldn't be better pleased with the result. The car handles superbly over the terrain I cover and I get a real sense it loves what it's doing too.

Hi Pete and Mark
No, 4:30 pm. I did work hard,no beer break even though it was hot; but really I didn't find it that difficult. I set the initial height using the recommended adjustment of 8mm front; 20mm back and adjusted the height and shocks the next day: 350 all round. I think 8 clicks on the shocks seems to give a good compromise between handling and suspension softness, but my hydragas had become very hard and crashy, so I'll probably keep fiddling a bit. As I said, I think the units are terrific, but I did wonder about the possibility of the adjusters moving. Do you have any experience of that?

Hi Matthew,
The ride height hasn't changed since I fitted them despite the car having done some hard work so I doubt there has been any movement of the adjusters. I'm keeping an eye on it though.

I would like to buy a set. Where to?

Hi Mike
I bought mine here in Adelaide, but this is the company that makes the kit. I'm not sure about the shipping costs though.

about £1200 at the current exchange rates (though need to add vat and import costs to that I suppose). Can't imagine they'll be light in a suitcase either!
