MG MGF Technical - Bilstein or Koni
Hi, I need to change the shock absorbers on my 98 MGF. Any recommendation if I should go for the Bilstein or the adjustable Koni. Thx |

The Bilsteins you can buy over the counter have the same rating front and rear (or at least they were the last time I looked - so check this). What you want on the MGF are softer dampers at the front, and stiffer at the rear to get the optimal handling balance. To my knowledge, the appropriately rated Bilsteins are exclusive to Tech-speed, so if you want these, contact Roy or Marvin (+44 1926 632066) Failing that, then go for the Koni adjustables - as at least you will be able to set these up correctly :o) Hope this helps |

Thanks Rob my tendency is to go for the Koni but it is a matter of price. Thanks for the interesting point about the different ratings between front & rear. I have lowered the car with the original MGR lowering kit and will try different ratings if I choose the Koni. Cheers |

Have tried all the shocks available, would recommend the Spax for VFM and road use. mike. |

Ohlins have now introduced an 'on the fly adjustor' for its motorcycle shocks - wonder if it will do something similar for its car shocks. See:- http://www.ohlins.nl/UK/newprod.html Ted |

Interesting development Ted. Strange mix of initial fitments - nothing strange about the K1200 range or the GSXR1000 individually - shows they intend to cover all areas of the bike market. |

John I think they have the USA market in mind where there is a huge outlet for this sort of thing and the K1200 is very big (no pun intended) over the other side of the pond! Ted |
