MG MGF Technical - Bonnet Light

I noticed yesterday while cleaning the F that the bonnet light was not working. On removal to check the globe I noticed that there are two wires to the light unit one of which was disconnected. I am pretty sure that both should be connected but without a manual cannot say for sure. I am sure someone will no the answer to this easy (not a trick) question.

Do you have a very simple test screwdriver? Clip on #1 wire, touch to #2 wire and see if the bulb lights. Pree the underbonnet switch off and test again.
JohnP

Yep, both should be connected. Without them connected the bonnet light will not work _AND_ THE ALARM ON THE BONNET WILL NOT FUNCTION.

Garages often disconnect the switch for the purpose of working on the car without the alarm triggering, this is a more stupid way of doing the same thing.

Be careful with the light, they have a habit of snapping the clips.

Thank Will I did reconnect the wire (plug on spade terminal) and played with the bonnet switch, the globe as certainly gone as it did not work. Not cheap test screwdriver type thingy just got a Fluke 73 multi-meter so will use that to confirm the busted globe if my poor eyesight fails to see if the filament is broken. Trip to Halfords for a couple of spare globes..

Also if it was disconnected by the garage they are bloody useless for not reconnecting. I know this is a bit topsy turvey but by the bonnet I am refering to the front opening where the spare wheel is as I know generally the bonnet is the cover for the engine which in this case is under the "boot lid" Oh the joys and idiosynchrnsies of owning a F

... the end that Dawn French refers to as "the front bottom".

If the buld is OK, and it is connected, have a look at the switch near the horn(s). The connections can get corroded.

I'm going to retro fit this to my 2003 TF 135. Any thoughts on the easiest way to connect this up?

Thanks,
