MG MGF Technical - Boot latch ?

I recently had to smash rear light to gain access to the boot (wouldn't open) and the catch mechanism still works (manually).
However, when you turn the key it works when the boot is open, BUT not when the boot is closed ??!

Tricky to comment - I'd really need to see what was going on to figure this one out. Any chance of some pictures to explain the problem?

It sounds to me like the catch mechanism is misaligned to the hook.
Try re-adjusting the bolts on the catch or the hook and see if that fixes it.

Cheers,
Branko.

<it works when the boot is open>
How did you check this ?? Did you close the lock with a screwdriver shaft and release it with the key ??
I have a spare cable in the garage.

Most appreciated, will definitely check the alignment.
- Not sure i was clear, I have to release the boot at present via emergency access in the rear light.
- then when the boot is open, I can turn the key and watch the cable move the catch but when the catch and lock are together (closed) it does not re-open.

Cheers

Could be misalignment of the catch, or it could be a problem with a stretched cable not moving the latch release mechanism adequately?
