MG MGF Technical - Boot leaking

Help, My MG TF boot leaks. It is very wet only in the centre well. Anybody got any ideas. The car is just over 1 year old. Is it covered in the warenty?
Thanks
W Sweeting

I suspect that the car was not designed to leak so it must be covered by warranty under the "unfit for designed use" section.

Not sure about the TF but the F could leak past the foam gasket on the rear lights.

My F did this until I took it in to the garrage and got them to re align the boot. Not a hard job I dont think.

Not sure how relevant this will be for a TF, given the TF has a revised boot lid design, but...

In the past MGF boot's have been known to leak, they come in four 'flavours', thus:

a) Do you have a boot rack? If you have the large black one then it can camber the boot lid if overtightened. This causes the lid to lift off of the rubber seal allowing water to leech into the boot compartment.

b) Underneath the boot carpet are some rubber grommets. In the past these have been known to be missing, causing minor water ingress into the boot.

c) On the subject of grommets, the MGF bootlid (note the TF one is different and therefore this may not be an issue), had 4 circular openings in the inner pressing, these can let water into the boot compartment - there is a set of 4 grommets available from MG to seal them.

d) Lastly, the gaskets between the bodywork and the rear light clusters have also been responsible for leaks into the boot compartment in the past. There are thicker ones available from your MG dealership for not a lot of money.

yes, it should be covered under your three year warranty

Thank-you all very much I will be visiting my dealer in the next few days.

Do you park the car on an incline, with the nose pointing downward? In which case, it is water draining into the engine bay and entering the boot through a 'drain hole'!
