MG MGF Technical - Boot release kit

My expected Xmas present of a Brown & Gammon's boot release kit has not arrived - B&G are having problems sourcing the actuator - when asked as to when they might be available, the answer I got was "Doh, I don't know!"

Looking through the archived threads, a mention is made of RDM as the original suppliers, yet I cannot pin them down. Does anybody know exactly who they are and their website address?

Also there's a mention of the 'motor' being a Metro tailgate locking motor FUD 10034 and that the switch panel being FJM 100650 PMA. Can anybody confirm this?
And if that's the case, surely B&G must know this?

Tony,

slightly off track but might be useful to know! The boot release kit sounds brilliant in theory but is a little dissapointing in practise! It only works with the ignition on and the handbrake engaged, therefore it is only really of value if you have a passenger who needs to get something out of the boot and you don't want to turn the engine off etc......I purchased one in the hope that i would eradicate the chance of locking my keys in the boot, it doesn;t serve this purpose. I'm looking into the possiblity of using a live feed to the switch so that it will work with the engine off but as yet no luck.......maybe worth cancelling the order if it's not exactly what you'd imagined!

I can confirm the central locking part number - as this is what I bought to do my own DIY bootlid opener. The panel switch P/N FJM 100650 PMA I am not sure which switch this refers to :o( Probably a rear demist switch (although that is P/N YUG 101480PMA) - but the B&G kit comes with a stainless steel button that is usually hidden away somewhere?

Thanks Rob & Rob.

My problem is forgetfulness - get half a mile up the road and then think, "did I put so & so in the boot?". Cold morning, windscreen not 100% demisted - I don't really want to turn the engine off !!!

I had thought along similar lines, adding in an extra live feed (for emergencies) via a suitable switch tucked away somewhere obscure, both having to be pressed at the same time to open the boot with the engine off.

Of course, I could go the whole hog, with a digital touch pad and a pin number...................!

Could get a second key cut just for the boot......

I am thinking about one of these kits as my boot lock is getting a bit dicky to say the least, I can be there for 5 mins sometimes trying to get it open. Have tried the spare key and that is the same (so I am sure it's the barrel rather than the key). Bit miffed to hear that B&G do not have any at the mo, was hoping to pick one up at Stoneleigh on Sunday :-(

Phil, have you tried the (much cheaper) method of using graphite lock oil?

Tell me how it's wired currently and I'll tell you the change you require. Note though - the idea is to prevent someone (tea leave) from opening the car using a stick to push the button!

Nope, but I will now :-D Thanks Will

You may have to go to a real hardware store, B&Q and halfords don't stock it, locksmiths should.

Will,

I'm not clued up on wiring so i'll describe as best I can. If anyone else has a boor release kit and can describve the circuit better then I'd appreciate it!

Basically, their are two parts to the system. Firstly the actual boot release mechanism is powered by a reply which sources it's live feed from the hazard light switch on the dash. From this is attached the actual switch that releases the boot which is connected to the fuse box at one of the free terminals which I assume is a switched live (make any sense?) I have spoken to a few folk about this problem and one susgestion was to use the ignition wire as a live feed......alternatively run a wire from the battery, with an inline fuse directly to the switch. Forgot to say, their is also an extension of the circuit that includes the handbrake to prevent the boot being opened on the move....any ideas Will or was all that just complete nonsense?

FJM100650PMA is the aircon switch.
YUG101480PMA HT heater will work as well.

Don't forget the relay.

Good luck
