MG MGF Technical - Brake Light.
Afternoon All.I should be getting a brakelight to put into the boot lid for my 96 mgf,it should come as a complete kit.My question is does it plug into a factory loom? or do I have to join it into the brake light circuit?. Thank You. |

IIRC you have to splice it into the circuit |

Dk. There *should* be a plug on the loom behind your boot light, just connect the flying lead from your new brake light to this!. |

Sorry Will, If you have a MG-R light then it has a connector to fit the boot harness. Dig around the boot latch for the wire. Geoff F. |

Thanks John :o) dk, whether or not you have a loom plug in the boot lid depends on the age and specification of your car. If your car does not benefit from ABS and is a pre 1999 model, then chances are there is no plug ready to use- but the instructions on the above link shows how you splice into the existing wiring loom :o) Good luck |

JP. For once you may be right. I bought a used 1997 boot lid for the hardware and harness. It came with no light but with the connection. I have interchangeable lids with and without luggage rack holes. To connect the electrics, I have a 7 Pin connector on the hinge arm. There have been Threads talking of 5 wires. No Brake Light ?? Geoff, Your generous comments were gratefully received :-) My '96 VVC had a high level brake light fitted when I bought it (I believe standard on VVCs) and never failed so I never got round to looking at it. JohnP |

I fitted one (bought from MGR Pheonix in Chorley) and had to splice it in according to the instructions that accompanied. My F is 1.8mpi V reg Nov 99 MkII and there was no plug. Took about half an hour start to finish. Hardest part was deciding which of the two green/purple wires to use as the instructions only mentioned one green/purple wire. Took pot luck and hit the jackpot first time, however the second wire was most probally for the other brake light. :) |

Oops meant to add, should have bought it at halfords and saved some money but only found that out later. |

John, the green wire with purple tracer is the brake lamp cable: the lamp would have worked whichever green/purple wire you spliced into :o) |

Thanks for the help I will have a poke around when the light arrives. |

Did you order the light from Halfords or do they have them in stock?? |
