MG MGF Technical - Brake pads and dodgy servicing nfc
Strange noises from the Labrat (214) yesterday..oeer sounded a bit like wheel bearings...but maybe not! Decided in a moment of motivation to take the wheels off last night to have a look. First pad I look at the friction material is down to the metal! So I phone up Halfords..it's open until 8pm...phew!!..I whizz over there and get a set of very non Mintex 1177's Halfords old breeze block brake pads. Then I get home and pull out the old pads. Interestingly the other pad on the left hand side had about 6mm of pad left! hmmmmmm On the other side, they both looked like new! Now I know that I hammer the living poo out of this poor car ( receiver of all Dr Bob's and my old MGF parts) but this is really weird, cant be just dramatically out of kilter pad wear. I think that the last change of pads it received the monkey doing it didnt change one of the pads!! Derrrrrrr! If you want something doing properly ...do it yourself!! |

Sounds like your floating caliper ain't floating. |

I reckon you're right there Stephen... |

"Sounds like your floating caliper ain't floating." I have the same problem as Neil. Can you guys shed some inside on non floating calipers? I used to think that a caliper was stuck and a piston was floating... |

The caliper has only one piston, the other side of the caliper is pulled over on two pins (obvious if you take it apart). Clean these pins and cover with copper grease before refitting. |

Thanks Will for the advice |
