MG MGF Technical - Brake Pipes

I have just had my car for its MOT and it failed on the brake pipes being rusted. Is there any improvements I can make over the standard Rover pipes when I replace them?

Thanks

Andrew

I thought the brake pipes were either rubber or copper (unless the rubber ones have been changed to braided pipes). Am i wrong?

fail on brakepipes? are you sure its not your flexi hoses that failed, i ahve been MOTing mgfs for the the last five years and never seen any corrosion on the actual metal pipes

Andy, made from rubber at the moving end before entering the calipers. The other are made from steel with any unknown coating(unknown 4me).

Anyway I think the MOT guys are worried about the interconnections between the rubber hose and metal pipes. They are zink plated only and secured to the body works with non protected flat springs. Prone to rust like mad.

OK Dieter, i just got a bit confused there for a moment! ;-)

Andy, car restorers usually employ copper brake pipes for both looks and corrosion resistance - but as Dieter says, car manufacturers keep with cheaper steel for these components.

I am replacing my steel pipes with copper ones, as they had started to rust where they have been bent, at the rear baulk head.

It is not an easy job, unless you have a ramp.
