MG MGF Technical - Brake piston

Hi All,

Having REAL trouble pushing my brake piston back into the caliper.. all i'm doing is changing the pads!! Anyway, its obvious it nees screwing in witha custom tool. So i phone up MGR.... sorry sir, dont know what your talking about.

So, has anyone else got a solution? Can the tool be bought elsewhere?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Garry,

Front calipers just push in, rear ones are on a screw thread.

I used some off-set pliers last time i did this job, not ideal, but it worked for me.

Yes a pair of thin nosed pliers will do the trick. Dont try an push the rear ones in at all. Just spread the pliers and put them in the little notches on the pistons face/ edge and screw them in slowly. May want to undo the bleed screw as you doing it to prevent any fluid leak. I find it leaks out even if you have the cap off the reservoir.

Also be carfeul the rubber doesnt come away from the piston causing fluid to leak out there. Good idea to clean it all with brake cleaner before trying to screw them in.

IIRC, I used a long flat screwdriver...

I used the tool that came with my angle grinder. It should be used to change the grinding disks but the two prongs are in just the right place for the F's rear brake piston.

thanks a lot guys.

Rover brake tool (for screwing the piston into the caliper) is part 18G 1596

But I used a flat edge of an old metal file I had in my tool box. Did the job nicely :o)
