MG MGF Technical - Brake squeal
The brakes on the TF have suddenly developed a squealing noise. I checked the pads which are fine. The car has only done 18000 miles. Any ideas what might be causing this please |

Possibly the pads moving about slightly in the callipers. A good smearing of copper grease behind the pad should cure it - be careful not to get any onto the pads or discs though, obviously!! Info here on how to service your brakes: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/DIY/index.htm HTH Ian |

The Ap brakes require cleaning every 6000 miles other wise the pads do not move easily. Just clean out. |

Mike Is it just the AP brakes? Do standard TF135 calipers (e.g.) normally last between service intervals? I know I always remove & clean calipers, pistons & pads on my bike a couple of times a year. My brakes have gone off a bit over 8000 miles (expected) from new. |

<pads which are fine> How "Fine" at 18000. Mike will tell you when to change them but a good policy is change at 3mm of pad remaining or 5mm if taking them apart. Dealers will be shut over the weekend if you find that you need some pads. Geoff F. |
