MG MGF Technical - Brakes on TF160 - MOT Failure

Hi there,
My TF160 failed its MOT yesterday regarding the front brakes. It apparently needs Discs and Pads which the Rover dealer quoted me £548 to fix.
I have tried to source the discs from another source, but I am told I can only get them from the main dealer.
Any ideas?
I could really do without spending the money at the moment as I have just paid for 4 new tyres and the 50k (Belt change) service (It also needs rear pads and a repair to the OSR track control arm which I am quoted £260)
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

Sorry about that Andy, for some reason I posted as you. Hopefully this is correct.

Which dealer in Preston?

Just fitted new discs and Greenstuff pads to the front of my '95 *F* - total cost was £84, including VAT. Fully realise that your brakes are different to mine, but would have thought that you could source replacements from a local motor factor, as I did.

There are alternative sources of the AP disks and pads but I haven't a link readily to hand.

The big disk/pad combo are vastly more expensive than the OEM small disk setup - disproportionate in fact.

These look a likely choice-I make it about £100 to £110 for front pads and discs for a MGF160 with AP brakes.

Hope this helps,

Hi there,
Can't see anything on Evay at the moment.
I will try brakes4u in the morning - £66 + VAT per disk sounds more reasonable than the £145 + VAT that Rover are trying to charge me -- and they have them in stock. Hoepfully, they will let me collect the discs - I will give them a call in the morning.
Thanks for your help

For £548 you can call that nice Mr Gammons and buy complete new discs, pads and calipers!!! Unbelieveable.

As you know I bought a complete set on Monday Rob

£499 inc VAT and they come in a fetching "blue"

Might have to buy a set now! And I rather like the idea of having blue brake calipers! :o)

How bad is the disc wear Steve?

When you run your finger across the disc can you feel (and see) a big lip on the outer edge where the pads don't reach?

To fail an MoT the performance on the brake tester must have been pretty awful.

I visited the garage this morning and checked the disc wear - on the outside, they are almost perfect but they are very badly worn/damaged on the inside (not sure why). I am not an expert on disc wear, but you could clearly see that all was not well.
The good news, I called Brakes4u this morning and I got myself a set of 2 for £140 (EBC Sports Disc) - they had them in stock, so I collected them from Northampton just after lunch. Thanks for your help, hopefully the car will be back on the road this evening.
