MG MGF Technical - Brakes pulling to the left

Can anyone help. Just buying a '97 MGF and noticed that the car pulls to the left quite severely. Is this a common problem and if so, is it expensive to put right? Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Not common at all. Could be simple tracking adjustment, could be something much more expensive like bent subframe.

First let the seller get the tracking checked, but this should be fixed before you buy the car.

If the seller doesn't fix it, don't buy.

It could be anything from all the things Johan has said, to some thing as simple as tyre pressure.
Most probable is the tracking, however, there are plenty of good MGF cars for sale, so take your time and get the best one you can.

Andy does the fault occur when driving or as the title suggests only when you apply the brakes?

If it pulls to the left under braking then the brakes on the RHS are not working as well as they should. It could be a simple as needing new pads or it could get more expensive. Have it checked by a mechanic/garage before you buy it.

Well, when I first bought my brand new MG TF, when braking, the car went to the right, quite firmly.

An under warranty change of the rear pads and discs, and all was perfect (only the pads were damaged, but they changed also the discs, thinking maybe an irregular worn may happened)

On a '97 MGF the shock absorber bushes will be worn. If they haven't been replaced, then they very probably will need replacing. The car should not pull under heavy braking (or acceleration). Look through the service history for the 5 year service - it can be very expensive.
As mentioned above, brakes may also be a problem.

Andy,

As mentioned brakes could be a problem.

Mine had a problem at one stage and went perfectly striaght when under acceleration but under braking it did swerve and the cause was knackered front wheel bearing and discs but did not find it that expensive to repair but did not use a main dealer.

Also check tyres as this could cause the problem, uneven tyre wear, unequal pressures.

Check the easy things first, maybe get a AA or RAC check done.
