MG MGF Technical - Brown & Gammons 5 yr Servicing
I've just had a reminder in for my 1.8 mpi mgf for its 5 year/60000ml service. (only done 32000mls). So I phoned up my local dealer Premier Motors, Romford, to find out how much, £623. The car was two years old when I brought it and I have always had it serviced by them with no problems. But this is a bit steep. I looked on the B & G website and they quote for the same service £480 which is a big difference. I have been to them before to buy items, but never for any servicing. Does any one know what their like for servicing mgf's. Regards. Paul Nightfire R966JPD |

considering they race F's and have seen them at Silverstone, i imagine they should know what they're doing, so my guess is very good, but im'e sure you will get a lot more replies, cheers, Dave. |

I have had a very bad experience with B & G and would definately not use them ever again. Over the past few months i have seen more and more bad press about them. On the other hand if i wass you i would not consider going any where else apart from Mike Satur. A bit of a drive i know as i live @ 120 miles away from him but i am geeting my F serviced in May! |

I use 'em and they seem good so far. A very similar question was asked recently in the "Brown & Gammons?" thread currently on the MGF/TF general board. |

I'm with Paul on this one, though I know some people are perfectly happy with them. Never had a service done by them, but a complete disaster with fitting a new hood, and then another disaster fitting a Milltek exhaust (leaving damage meaning a repaint of rear bumper) just says no to a third chance. IMO,ask yourself, do you want an enthusiast to work on your car, or just another mechanic working his hours. And, compared to MS, I never found them to be reasonably priced. They might be reasonable compared to a dealer, but then that shouldn't be difficult!:-) |

Paul (the second one - not the original poster) said: "On the other hand if i wass you i would not consider going any where else apart from Mike Satur" IMO this is a little harsh - there are many good independent garages around who will do a thorough job, especially on a service. You simply need to find one that knows the MGF. Again IMHO, the ideal is to choose a workshop that is prepared to build a relationship with you. In return for your ongoing business, they build a knowledge of your individual car and use this to provide a personalised service. In my case I originally went to TechSpeed for their suspension package. However, I was sufficiently impressed with their MGF knowledge and their customer service to continue to use them for all my servicing and maintenance work. They now know my car and everything that has been done to it since it came off its MGR dealer maintenance contract at three years old. For this quality of service I am prepared to pay the premium of driving 80 miles each way to visit them. Dave |

Hi Paul, I too called called romford and thought they were well steep. I went to Wrights motors (MG Dealer) in Lowestoft, Suffolk, and it was £475.00 They gave really excellent customer service, and being an MG dealer I assume they were mechanically sound though ive no idea about mechanics!!! Ben |
