MG MGF Technical - Buttons and alloy inserts mk2

Hi.
I would like to know how to remove the heater buttons (simply pulling?) and if any owner of an MKII could tell me if the alloy inserts on the door are really alloy or just a fake plastic paint?
I own an MG TF and would like to add some touch of alloy inside....

The heater control knobs are simple push on, pull off affairs. You just have to be brave, and pull hard enough!

MY2000 door trims are painted and textured plastic - but are pretty convincing, even close up. I have these in my Mk1 F - see the bottom of http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/BRM_concept.htm

I reckon these would look excellent in a TF too :o)
Rob Bell

Thanks, Rob!

Nice alloy upgrade!

Good Job!
Spinder00

Hurry to the nearest MG-Rover dealer and check if he still has the alloy heater knobs in stock. If he needs to order them you will be paying a small fortune for them.

just a small hint to get some real alloy in the interior.
Erik

Erik, considering I live in a million people town, and there are less than a dozen MGF, and only three MG TF (mine was the first), it's quite incredible they will have any in stock!

Probably, (at least temporary) I'll paint the existing ones with an acrylic alloy finish paint, till I look for an extra job that allows me paying the real alloy buttons!

;)

Spinder00

Spinder...no need to wait - just call Mike Satur for his alloy heater knobs; I have them on my TF and they look superb, and very easy to fit!

Are you sure that the door trims on MY2000 models are not alloy. They give back a metallic sound when you touch them with a key and they are cold to the touch.
OTO the air vent surround and center console accessories are definitely plastic.
Anthony Braham

Yup, very convincing metal-looking plastic Anthony.

I'll probably be removing my brother's trims shortly to fit leather door pods on his MY2000, so will take some pictures from behind to confirm :o)
Rob Bell

Rob, and what about removing the trim inserts?
Are they clipped or screwed from beyond the panel?
Spinder00

>>what about removing the trim inserts?

Hi Spinder - these are held on by nuts. When you remove the trim, there are clearly visible (the soft trim insert is held on by metal tabs). I think you can just make these out in this picture (upper of the two door cards pictured): http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/BRM_images/parts_fitting/doorcards_new&old_backing.JPG

BTW, what brakes have you decided to go for? :o)
Rob Bell

Spinder,

Here is a picture of my TF with the silver console and vents etc.

The alloy heater knobs are from Mike Satur.

Steve

Steve...loke the "look" of your interior! I have the alloy console already and the MS heater knobs, but where did you get the air vents and cowl surround? MS as well? Was the cowl surround a DIY job or pro fitted?
Blue Max

Rob, cause my alloy wheels are 15", I'd like to fit the HiSpec Billet 4 and 285 mm disc front, and when I got cash enough, the 285 mm disc rear. Probably with EBC green pads (less noisy than mintex 1144)

I didn't decide if I like x drilled or grooved or combined discs.

But there are two problems:

a) HiSpec chaps didn't answer me, so still I don't know the price, nor if there is any homologation problem for Spain. Next week I'll send them a Fax! (no more e-mail stuff)

b) in Spain we have an antique and obsolete law for tuning so I've to find a professional that makes a project, and executes it! Really expensive... And also, they don't know much about british cars and less about british brake upgrade kits!!!!!!!
Spinder00

Steve, please, please, please...
Detail anyone of the objects and procedence!

Mike satur knobs, but...
original vent frames, or chromedesign, or what. Original center console? and the cowl surround?

Are you mister alloy perfect painter?

Really looks superb

I miss the door trims!
Rob had them, he he he...
Spinder00

Spinder, I think that Tim Woolcott has been looking into these discs and calipers, and Paul Nothard has them - so they should give you an idea on costs. No idea regarding homologation though... :o(

That painted console and instrument binnacle can be had at typically realistic prices from the MGF Centre, who get them sprayed up (along with the air vents too). Seen these up close, and can vouch for their quality - which is excellent :o)

Blue Max

I fitted them to my F without the cowl and it looked great, so on the TF I wanted the same look, but after fitting the console and vents, the cowl looked odd in that 'technical' finish.

As Rob said, got them from the MGF Centre in Wolverhampton. Took about 30 mins to fit all of it.

Spinder,

Just the console, vents and cowl from the MGF Centre and Mike Satur heater controls. Mine are the push on variety that Mike sells.

Cheers,

Steve
