MG MGF Technical - Cam belt part number
Please mates, in order to buy and have it replaced I need to know the MG Rover part number of the cam belt for my F 1.8 mpi 1997. Any other part that require to be replaced with the belt? Many thanks in advance. Best. Andy. |

I don´t know the answer but this may help you. I recently changed my F´s belt and the people at the garage commented that all the 1.8 Rover engines use the same cam belt. |

Check the engine number - if 18KFJ31 153993 or higher, then your engine will have an automatic tensioner. -Static tensioner belt (A111E6044S £24.33) prior to Oct 98 - prior to engine number 153993 -Automatic tensioner belt (A111E6246S £25.74) from Oct 98 - after engine number 153993 Your car may be a 97, but are you 100% sure that the engine has never been changed? Can you see the engine number without removing the hatch? I am ordering a roll hoop from mike satur, and intend to also get the stuff needed for the 10000km service. They have some 'life saver' bolts for the 1.8. (non-VVC) are they worthwhile? How hard is the change? Is it just to replace the bolts with the cam-fixing-tool as only support? //Oskar |

Dead easy to change the 4 bolts. The pack from Mike comes with instructions AND a small useful bottle of Vanchem locking fluid. This is also very useful when relocating the big pulley bolt.... If you have a vice,put one of the old bolts secure and apply force with a large spanner. Notice where and how easy the bolt shears ! Shame on Atlas. / Carl. |

Oooops! The 4 bolts are for the VVC, 1.8Mpi are the same but only 2 bolts and washers + bottle of fluid. / Carl. |

Hang on, According to the sticker on the cambelt cover, my engine is 18K4FJ32 432004! This sounds strange, if the car is a -97, doesn't it? I wonder if my car has a dark history! Can someone shed some light on this please? cheers Oskar |

Can't comment on your car's history, but it appears that you've got a pretty recent engine in your car - possibly following a catastrophic head gasket failure? |

Well, it's a -97 (supposedly) with VIN AD021410. Alright, it must mean that the little old lady got a HGF driving to church one sunday morning, nothing to worry about. How old is can this engine be then? I guess this also means I should cancel my order from mike satur on the cam-belt and the manual tensioner? (not the same part number, right?) Should i trust the sticker on the cam belt cover? I guess the upside is that the cambelt is not that old.... Cheers Oskar |

Double check the engine number - it will be stamped on the block, near the main bearing ladder. Hopefully Dieter has a picture of the are concerned? But yes, if the number you've found on the cam cover is correct, you'll have a 26mm wide belt and an automatic tensioner. |
