MG MGF Technical - Cambelt part number - 1.8MPI

My MGF 1.8 mpi VIN is SARRDWBGMAD 018694 and engine number is 18K4FJ32397687.
Questions: Manual or automatic tensioner? and what kind -or part number- of cambelt?
Thanks.
Mike

51 percent sure ;)

LHN100560 Belt-engine timing - 26mm wide - auto tensioning
LHP100900 Tensioner-timing belt, auto tensioning

btw, has anyone out there with a MPi/120bhp a manual tensioner and 23mm belt ?
The manual and 23mm belts are of course for the VVC.
Dieter

<The manual and 23mm belts are of course for the VVC.>100%incorrect;-))
I've always fitted 26mm belts to all VVC engines (these had manual tensioners as well)would NOT advise fitting 23mm belts to this engine other than as an emergency, the early 1.8 MPi cars had the narrower 23mm belts. All the auto tensioner cars had wider belts but a different length to the VVC and MPi engines.
The auto tensioner came into production around 2000 , best way to check is to remove the cam belt cover and check the tensioner ,if it has a black plastic tensioner wheel it is a auto tensioner. If it is a metal tensioner wheel it is a manual.

Thank you Dieter and Mike but I am lost in this matter. I have to order the parts to be mailed from 1100 km away, and once the car is at the garage it will take weeks to get the right belt or tensioner in the case they are not adequate. Could any of you chaps be more specific about.
Grateful. Mike

*g*, you better believe what the master says.

Easier in this way.
Dieter

.. or order both. P/N's including some aftermarket are written here (I hope correct) ;)

Dieter should have data *g* on the year of manufacture so should be easy to tell around '97 at a guess.. so should be manual tensioner and 26mm belt.

Actually I had the very some trouble when changed my F´s cambelt in an small garage. Now I find it very difficult to believe that at MG Rover there was no reason in choosing different cambelts and tensioners other than the humor of the chaps at the assembly line. I am sure that someone who understands the basic of the K engine will be able to put some light on this matter.

Sorry to intrude but I am trying to change the belt and find a lot of problems at the local garage. These people ask me to order the belt from UK and they are unsure about both the belt wide and the tensioner type. My F is a 1.8 reg with air conditioner built in January 1998. Help appreciated.
