MG MGF Technical - Cambelt tensioner noises

What sound does the cambelt tensioner make when it is on its way out?

It's a sort of whining, high pitched noise. It changes with revs.

Can screech like a fan belt for a minute or so and then stop.

What Squeal and stops...like kerr-boom engine detonates, or just stops squealing?

The <kerr-boom> occurred shortly(days) after I ignored the squeal. New engine. It would have been very painful but it wasn't my car, it belonged to my daughter. Anyway she still loves it to bits and we investigate oddities immediately.
