MG MGF Technical - Car Immobiliser
Recently purchased a MGF VVC 1997, which my wife was unable to start due to key fob not deactivating alarm. Problem was not fob, but put down to radio frequency interference from mobile phone site transmitters. 2 questions 1/ It is a Japanese import I am told that the transmit frequency of the key fob is different (ie it is not the usual 433.895mhz)what is that frequency. 2/ I am told that the immobiliser can be over ridden as long as you have the car key. How Any help appreciated. Thank you Patrick |

Some terms of the hardware background and sensitivity are here. http://www.mgfcar.de/alarm_blipper/eblipper.htm The action to work out alarm deactivation with the key is written to your owners manual. Or try the archives for more. You need the 4 digit keycode in any way. Regards Dieter |

Dieter, Thank you for that. The car us second hand and did not come with an owners manual. Are the instructions lengthy? Are they available on line ? Can one obtain the code from the manufactor if the car VIN number is quoted? Regards Patrick |

Patrick, Give your VIN. NO. to any local dealer, they can look up onto the computer and should be able to give you the code no. On frequency, you can upgrade them, but it will cost you dearly - check with the dealer as well. hank |

Patrick You will soon have mail with extracts from Owners handbook. Sorry, 9 smallish jpgs as attachments. Done in a rush so I can enjoy a full day at work even though the sun is bright and hot already over here. Good luck. |

The ariel is and hidden in the lowest cental point of the car to make it as ineffective as possible, on a lot of 'stock' cars it is difficult to unlock the car unless the blipper is actually up against the window! Lots of advice in the archive about straightening the ariel to incresse the range to a whole 10meters away from the car! (free and very simple, if you haven't done it then do it). Also note, the blipper works by cycleing thru many 'codes', the car and the blipper stay in sync, if you use the blipper out of range of the car then it will fall out of sync, if this happens the car has to receive three codes (pushes) to re-sync. Also note that after one push the range on the blipper will decresse, so if you 'miss' the first time, then three pushes near the drivers window should get it. If this doesn't work then open the door with the key (key disables alarm, not imobilizer) and try it from the drivers seat. It is not unhear of for local interference to interfere with the alarm, but you may be being 'fed a line' where any of the above techniques may fix the problem for free. |
