MG MGF Technical - Car Pulling to left when braking

Dear all, Just had two new tyres fitted to the rear, and the tracking done aswell.

Now under medium to heavy breaking the car pulls to the right? I have checked the tyre pressures and all seems to be ok. Any ideas?

Also my windscreen washer has stopped working, there is plenty of water in it, but nothing coming out.

Can you hear the pump whirring?

Regarding the brakes - if the tracking really is okay - and you've already checked the other prime suspects, then make sure that the callipers haven't seized up (rear brake calliper seizure is very common especially on cars that mostly drive around town). Another cause could be loose wheel nuts (!!!) - so certainly no harm making sure that these are all torqued up correctly! (70 Nm)

Windscreen washer? Two suggestions:
1. the nozzles are blocked
2. the washer hose has become disconnected somewhere - inspect from washer bottle to the bonnet nozzles (you'll need to remove the front bonnet plastic shroud to do this properly).

Hope this helps

Maybe one of the small washer fluid hoses is disconnected somwhere in the pipeline?

Had that happen to me before!

thanks guys, i am taking it back to the garage tomorrow, although they said that if it is pullling on braking it is more likely to be the brakes rather than the tracking, although the problem wasn't there before i took it in!!!!!!!!

Andrea,
Do you own my "F"? Same problem pulling to the right under medium to heavy braking. My local main MG dealer looked at it and said all is checked and OK. I'm still getting the same fault (intermitantlly).
Is your car a 1.8vvc year 2000 model?
Send a reply because it might be a batch problem.
We will see if that vintage is a problem.

Pulling to any side almost relates to the rear.
Did you check the new tyres are mounted in right direction ?

Advise the garage to check all ball joints, special the rear lower track arm. Rear tie bars rubber bushes may have worn as well.

What age is the car ?

Hi all.

When I bought my TF, it pulled heavily to the right on medium and hard braking. When my dealer check the brakes, they found that one rear pad was bad mounted, having a bad contact to the disk, and started to worn irregulary. The under warranty replacement of rear pads and discs eliminate the problem.

Hello Andrea,
It is looking to me like a rear brake problem we have causing pulling to the right. From those threads it is where the MG Dealer mechanics (in Farnham) get it wrong. I hope your's are more adept and fix it. E-mail me if and when it is fixed, with a solution at: cj_8a@hotmail.com

Good luck

I had this and it was one of the front inside brake pads which had rusted to the calper. It also caused the outside of the disk to wear more than the inside. Incidentally mine is a 2000 VVC too.
