MG MGF Technical - Cat Deterrant
Slight prolem with a local moggy: Obviously madly in love with my car a ginger/white cat sleeps on my soft-top at night. I have nothing against cats but I do have two concerns : 1 - claws on a soft-top 2 - it's a hairy bugger and it leaves beind patches of fur that are a sod to get rid of. Anyone have any ideas on a repellant I can use that is not going to stink my car out or damage my roof ? Cheers Jeff 1998 VVC R380ODG

Citrus fruit is a favoite deterront, but I assume that leaving orange peel on the roof is not what your looking for! Other than that you can get citrus spray, but it does smell and I dont know how it would effect the waterproofing/blackness, although it is sold for carpets (which is exactly what you want to get rid of - car pets [ouch]) so may not have any acidic ingredients. You can also get "lion dung" but although this has been de-odorized i am not sure how you would get about putting it on your car - thinks a few pellets on the engine cover grill... who knows Will

Hello, I wonder if you can help me. I have found a very nice place to sleep, a lovely springy bed attached to one of those moving machine things (the ones that hold those nice warm placed to sleep underneath, but where sometimes you wake up too far away from your food bowl). It has a lovely soft texture, gets nice and warm in the sun, and is just the right size and shape to sleep on. The problem is that every now and then when I have just settled down for my after-breakfast nap, this horrible person comes along and tries to chase me off. I once snagged a claw in the bed really badly. Or sometimes, when I decide it is just the right place for my after-lunch nap, I go to my nice bed and it isn’t there! Has anyone had any experience with these catnap-nappers? Is there any way to keep them away?

Tiddles, Have you tries pissing thru the engine vents, this will have the effect of corroding the coils and stopping your bed from moving in the morning Will

Tiddles If you climb up into the nice warm and dark area you will find a nice shiny round thing with a big rubber band - if you wedge yourself into this spot all your problems (and Jeffs) will be solved when Jeff starts his moving machine next time. Jeff Where is the car parked? If it is 'off-road' then try an electronic (and humane) cat scarer - I use them in the garden and they are pretty good. Ted

Best cat deterrent I know is a small piece of lead inserted in one of the cat's ears at high velocity. :-) Ok OK I've got a cat too. Perhaps you could have the sensitivity of the volumetric alarm turned up so that it goes off when the cat jumps on the roof? Bruce

I have 2 Black Labradors about 5 1/2 stone each. i dont get any cats near my car.. A god cat scarer :0) Seriously though, There is a product called pepper dust which repels cats and dogs you could try sprinkling some around the car, very cheap to buy from most gardening stores... Animals hate pepper :0)

I agree with the pepper dust. Don't have a cat problem, but it's great when some snotbag neighbour stops at my nice conifer to let their beastie do it's business, until the beastie starts sneezing uncontrollably. Funnily enough, it doesn't happen anymore. I guess the sight of me laughing at them from the window made them figure out that their pet's temporary affliction was no accident. - Andy

As it is my own moggie that sleeps on my roof, I was a bit reluctant to try anything to severe. In the end I bought the Mike Satur Sunmate which no only protect the roof but the mog does not seem so keen on it as a bed. Maybe something to do with the material. Ralph

All, Thank you very much for you help, you have all been very helpfull. Think I'll go the pepper route. Ted - the cat is parked on the road at the end of a cul de sac. Can't park my car in my garage. Tiddles - If I CATch you (sorry), beware! Cheers Jeff

Just saw this on the BBC site, and it is relevant: http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/uk/england/newsid_1898000/1898645.stm Lion droppings or orange peal soaked in peppermint.... Now if only we could find something to keep the deer and the rabbits out of the garden.... Maybe a whole lion :-) Neil.

You just beat me to that, Neil! The person I feel sorry is the poor bloke who has to go and collect the Lion-poop!! - Andy
