MG MGF Technical - CD player security code

A while back I tried to return my 1999 MGF's (presumed original) MG branded cd player to the car. I discovered that the security code (provided on the original security info card) did not work. I bought the car privately and the original dealers is far away (if even still extant).

Anybody got any tips, sneaky ways to override the security "feature" etc? I dont need to use it, and the aftermarket one is better, but you know how it is, it is good to be surrounded by as many MG logos as possible.....

Pete,

The wonders of Google!

Don't know if this is legit, but good luck!

Bought mine 2nd hand, forget to ask for code, went to disconnect battery and realised "oh bum, don't have the code"

There is a guy advertising on ebay, says he has the codes. he was very very helpful, I didn't buy but emailed via ebay to ask did he have a code for my mg, and supplied vin and year and model and make of radio/cd, said I didn't wnat to buy unless he could say yes.

he replied free of charge that unfortunatly he couldn't help with that particular make and model.

he didn't need oo I would have sent the momey via paypal and found out too late, so on the basis he told me up front I'd trust him.

Sorry haven't access to ebay in work, but look it up, he seems to be on there all the time.

I didn't disconnect the battery so still works ! here's hoping it doesn't go flat.

Good luck

Hi,

I have a programme that decoded the blaupunkt cd player fitted to my 2000W MGF

If you have the same unit and the serial number on the back of the unit I can try it for you.

Some ex Rover dealers still have the ability to do it. Some will try over the phone for nothing, others will charge you. It's worth phoning a few to see. I know because I had to get mine after the battery went flat during last winter. I think it was from a dealer in Dunmow in Essex.

Try http://www.trautos.co.uk.
They are ex Edwards of Stratford who claim to have all the ex MGR data. 4 ex.

Andrew,

I'd like to take you up on your offer but unfortunately dont have the serial number on me atm.

Thanks everyone for the other suggestions, and for pointing out that I could have tried google (ahem!).

Makes a nice light hearted diversion from a certain other topic commonly discussed on this forum.
Pete

Pete,

E-mail me at andy.smith.home at blueyonder.co.uk and I will send you the programme.

Alternatively you can contact your local dealer, ours ended up giving us the details of ours for nowt, especially once we told tham that they had a bloody cheek asking us to pay for it after the money they had had from us in the past.

All it means is some one looking it up on a computer after all.

Pete,

Have e-mailed the code however if you aren't at work till monday and happen to view this forum over the weekend try either
7040 or 1040. On mine it was the first code.

Pete, here at British Legends we can still access the info from MGR for your code. PM me the details and i'll sort it for you.

Are the codes unit specific?

I have the Kenwood CD Radio. I bought it from another TF owner and it came with the booklet, key card and the tools to remove it. I've put all of these in a safe place.

The battery went flat while the car was stored for a couple of months and I've had no music since.

Any ideas
