MG MGF Technical - Changing the grilles

Do I need to remove my front bumper in order to replace the mesh therein?

Or can I fiddle about and do it without removing it?

Yes

No

the removal of the bumper is not tricky, but I would wait for some warmer weather as you ahve to get your hands inside the front wings behind the tough plastic arches, and cold hands are not good for this!

Go on Ted....

Can be done! But very, very fiddly....

And that is what the guy asked - can it be done?

Removing the front bumper is actually less daunting than it may seem check out Scarlets site http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/ap1000000/home.htm

At Will says choose a warm day. It took me about 35mins, Probably quicker than Ted's 'special, Dr Who, sonic screwdriver' method.... :o)

Thanx for the plug Tim. :-)

IMO it can't be done, mainly because even with a small 'dumpy' style screwdriver you haven't got quite enough access to the screws with it in place. If you have, if you excuse the expression, a smaller tool than me! ;-) then you may just get away with it.

Bragging again !!!

Try using one of those little ratchet sets with a screw head attachment, assuming you have room to move the ratchet !!!

Memory is bit hazy - put it down to age - but someone did it and reported it on this board - couple of years back, at that time it was agreed (as is now) that it is probably easer to remove the bumper first!
