MG MGF Technical - Charcoal Cannister
Can you take the charcoal cannister off the MGF 1800 engine? just wanted to know if its ok because its rubbing against my 90 degree pipe coming of the Throttle Body. |

It's emissions equipment - so if you were to remove the cannister, I don't think that anything will happen to you engine. Just be sure to close of the vacuum line. Anyone else know any different? |

your engine management light would come on after a few miles and maybe the car would jump into "limp" mode. |

Thanks guys, i have a Emerald ECU so hope it will be ok with that. I was told when i had my metty RR'd at Emerald, that the elise drivers remove the charcoal canister, its a waste of space. Anyway thanks again. |

>Anyone else know any different? No, of course not. I think you also need to feed the breather pipe between fuel tank and charcoal can for new. Make it longer and lead to a secure *cold* location. Dieter |

You can remove it, there are two additional thighs to do, the first is the 'vent' this has to go between the tank and the outside, but obviously you want it as high up as possible, If I were you I would get hold of a 'flame trap', there is probebly already one in the pipe lower down, but get one from a scrappie, it's 2x1x1/4" black box that fits between the manifold and the ECU on the vacume pipe there. Then make sue it's high and not lightly to vent into the cabin or boot. The other thing is to block the tube that runs to the throttle body, this tube is only 'open' when the throttle is depressed, so you won't hear it wheezing at idle. I used a small bolt (m2 or m1?) wrapped in PTFE tape. The seal doesn't have to be perfect, just good enough to stop most of the air and any of the dirt. |

Andy, Out of insterest what other stuff have you done to the engine other than the emerald. What kind of figures are you getting on the RR...? |

Tim, i have a exhasust and filter and is RR'd @ 130 BHP @ 5856 RPM & 125.1 lb/ft Torque @ 4843RPM. Will, the charcoal cannister is the metro 1 (MGF engine conversion incase you were wondering) whether it makes any difference i am not sure, it has a, i think its called a "Purge Valve" which a plug from the loom is connected to and i pipe coming from the cannister or the valve i cant remember which, which is leading downwards into the engine bay, i think thats where the vapours go, hope that made sense. Andy. |

>is the metro 1 Shouldn't be any diffrent, same applys A 1.8 metro, now thats a real street sleeper! Good luck! |
