MG MGF Technical - Cleaning Rear Window - another solution!
I had a go at cleaning the rear window this weekend, using 'Colour Magic'! It worked a treat. My window had gone the characteristic milky colour, based upon a build up of an 'oxidation' type film. I guess that any mildly abrasive paste will work - it needs to be agressive enough to remove the film, but not too agressive to scratch the window. I would recommend that anyone tries it in a discreet area first to make sure you are happy that it works for you. I also washed the window well first to remove any grit which would abrade the surface. It has the added benefit of beading the rain afterwards to clear it.

May be a stupid question but which colour "colour magic" was it?

>>>>>mildly abrasive paste will work Yes it will, even toothpaste (not the gel type though).

I still prefer the Autoglym Resin polish !! Jonty

Anything with a cutting agent. I used T-cut on my window last time, but will probably use autoglym Resin on it next time. There is also a proper product available from BMW I believe. Leigh

I used the grey / silver version, as I used to have a car that colour, before my BRG F. It had been sitting on the shelf for a while in the garage, before I decided to try it. I'm sure the BMW polish / some of the more bespoke options do a better job, but this solution was 'free' to me and has done a job that I'm satisfied with, bearing in mind the poor state beforehand - I guess it's all relative though!

BMW polish works well but it didn't take the scratches out of my rear window. David

The back window on the "F" is alot like the lexan used on some helicopter windscreens. It bieng strong but senstive too scratches and dirt. To clean them a good perspex polish will clean any milkyness and small scratches off it, then polish it with a non abrasive resin type polish, If there are deep scratches in the window you can use Brasso to remove the scratch then toothpaste, finishing off with perspex polish and finaly a non abrasive resin type polish. With patientce and time you recover a heavly scratched back window. Unfortunatly some times they go milky due to what is called crazing, this where the material has fine cracks within it's structure, This can be caused by spilling some chemical, such as petrol, on to the window. When this happens it's time to replace it.

Hi Here goes another solution, I clean mine once a mouth with silicone STP "sun of a gun": apply the greasy stuff on both sides of the plastic and clean it 5 minutes later... It’s seams new, even if it has four years old under the hot portuguese sun like mine :) bye Joao
