MG MGF Technical - Cleaning The Hood
Hi everyone, Someone recently posted an enquiry about Renovo hood restorer. Just like to say that I have recently bought and tried the Auto Glym Fabric Hood Cleaning kit and it works extremely well. The hood came up like new. Hope this helps anyone thinking of doing a bit of hood cleaning! |

That was me Keith, I might give AG a whirl as it's a heck of a lot cheaper than Renovo! Cheers! |

The reason that I used Renovo was that they do a renovator for black hoods (and a small range of colours) in addition to a cleaner and proofer. As the hood got older I found that it needed a bit of a blacking a couple of times a year. Now have a green hood so that is ruled out now. May have to go back to the Ag set that is in the shed as well. |

Can't say I was overly impressed with AG. Yes the hood came up v. well with the restorer, but the water-proofing wasn't what I expected. I was expecting the rain to 'bead' on the fabric and run-off. But it only seems to do this in a light misty rain. In a downpour it just soaks in, as per usual. Someone I spoke to about this, said that they used a water-proofing agent which they had bought from the chemist. I'm assuming that the chemist bought solution applies a polymer coating over the fabric? Any thougts? Matt. |

Or a waterproofer from any good camping shop? |

Has anyone any advice on cleaning bird lime off the hood? This must be a common problem and the general view is that it's not good for the material. Cheers |
