MG MGF Technical - Clicking window..

Whenever I lower the passenger window, there's a loud crack just as the glass starts to move. I get the same noise when closing the window, as the glass reaches the end of its travel.

Any ideas what this could be?

Mine had this and the dealer adjusted it before I took delivery. They said it was due to a bolt securing the mechanism to the door not being tight enough, hence the whole mechanism moved slightly when the window reached a stop.

Are there any links available detailing the steps involved in getting to and working on the windows??

Hi Simon,

The RAVE CD has the full breakdown of how to repair the window mech + a whole lot more. I can strongly recommend you getting hold of a copy.

Cheers, Russ.

Cheers Russ. Any ideas where I can get said CD??

Try also Tony's website: http://www.apttony.co.uk/ - there is a section on window adjustment that covers most of the detail you need.

Personally, I would suspect that the problem may lay with the window stops. Richard Eaton covered their replacement some while ago - there's more on this on Paul's FAQ pages...

I originally thought it was the stops on mine, as Rob suggests, but in my case at least the glass was not travelling past it's normal range.
