MG MGF Technical - Clock fingers out of sync

Has anybody ever taken their clock apart? The hour and minute hand are no longer correctly aligned on mine.

I've taken the clock out of the console, but it's not obvious as to how (and IF) it will come apart and go back together again. It's not major - just a niggle, but it just doesn't look right anymore.

Tony, about 5 weeks ago we were out in the car and I thought the clock had lost an hour but it seemed that the hands had slipped out of alignment like yours.

I shall be watching this thread with interest!

Same happened to mine, got it exchanged under warranty. Not much use if outta warranty..sorry.

Mine went whacky a few months ago. Gained time, lost time, went backwards, and so on.
It's a sealed unit, about £25 as I recall.

Bob,

I think that is a little bit on the low side. According to a seller on eBay retail is GBP 60 for a clock, part number YFB100240 up till VIN number 511058. It went after two bids for just GBP 19.99

Tony /John,

There are used ones at Brown & Gammons for GBP 47 incl. VAT

or try Victoria at the MGF centre.

Good luck,

If you are interested I have a used one, works perfectly, you can have it for £15 plus PnP.

I also have the matching oil temp gauge, also £15 plus PnP.

If interested drop me an email.

The part number for the clock is indeed YFB100240, cost £69.66 inc VAT from Rover Parts.

My hands did the same last year, and then the little adjuster wheel gave up the ghost. A year of living with GMT and a misalign hands and the thing decided to fix itself... All you need is patience..... or a new clock you could try Victoria.

To replace the clock Bill told me the easiest way is to remove the centre airdiffuser and reach it from there, it's a bit easier than dismantling the dash.

You would find it hard to get the clock out that way on a Mk 2 or TF, it is held in place by a panel and several small screws,

I was hoping somebody might have successfully taken it apart - it's such a little niggly little thing that I'd rather spend my money on something more important.

The glass face looks to be retained by the plastic dial surround which easily rotates but may break if forced off. There are 2 screws on the rear of the pot but losening those does not appear to slacken anything - I suspect they hold the mechanism to the rear of the pot, and the only way in is by forcing off the front face!
