MG MGF Technical - Clunky Car
Any TF (160) owners out there having any clunking noises from the front of the car that isn't the brakes? Had one sub-frame replaced already (some time ago) by MG-R. It happens on even slightly bumpy surfaces and when setting off at the lights (car pitching). Sounds like something loose clunking or a bolt pulling on a hole (bolt threads catching)?!? Am crawling under it this w/end and taking the wheels off to look for loose bolts, broken parts etc. A 4x4 friend suggested worn/ wearing dampers ('on their way out' he said)~ with only 31K miles though? Any top tips from out there in MG Land??? |

I had a clunk from the back when going over speed bumps that turned out to be a leaking damper. That was at 20K miles... Cheers, Tim |

Check that all the subframe bolts are as tight as they should be, and then look at the wishbone and other bolts attached to the subframe. In other words, exactly what you had planned to do! LOL Good luck |

Clunky Car now less Clunky!! There are 2 blue things at each side of the sub-frame with 2 bolts in each. One had become a bit stripped (why?), so I replaced it with a shiney new one. Everything else OK but 'need' to upgrade to elastomers, and could do to replace the hub end steering thingy~ you know, the ball joint with a rubber donut on it and a threaded sticky up thing. Rubber has split a wee bit. Thanks for the help Rob et al, clunky car case closed (for now)... |
