MG MGF Technical - clutch biting point on a TF
My Tf 160 seems to have a high biting point for the clutch. Much higher than my old F VVC, and higher than either the 160, 135 I test drove or the 115 I have as a loan car. Is there any adjustment on this? The dealer says not and tried some bull about the 115 being a smaller clutch and that is why the biting point is different.

LOL, the 115 has the same clutch as the 135 & 160. Some dealers try it on don't they. I can't really compare mine to my old F, a) it was an old car and b) I had an AP clutch put in when I had it changed. Personally I don't like the clutch in the TF, it does bite a bit higher and makes quite launches hard without revving the balls off the car & slipping the clutch a lot. With the AP its a lot quicker to do quick starts. Steve.

Yeah I've noticed that. It's certainly higher than my old 'F' and the 'B' I'm still driving. In the 'B' I usaully indicate to turn right by activating the windscreen wiper and then pop the clutch thinking I'm in the TF. Thank god the Disco is an auto. Cheers Mike

Hi all, please, can someone with the above mentioned "problem" take a look down at the clutch release cylinder and itīs lever. Has these items been changed for something new ? As there has been problems with the "old" setup maybee MGR now uses a new type/ manufacturer of these parts... This would be no big deal as it is very much a bolt on item on top of the clutch housing. Regards , Carl. |

Hi Carl, I also have noticed this effect and often find that I am trying to pull away without fully releasing the clutch. If you can give me an idea where the parts are that you refer to, I can take a few pictures and post them for you to compare. Best regards Paul

Hi Paul, there are some very good pictures on Dieters site ( as allways !) http://www.lame-delegation.de/mgf-net.de/wreck_engine/index1.htm There are some pictures of a gearbox and slave cylinder for the clutch. When viewing on a normal rolling car the engine cover (the one with um-teen bolts under the rear parcel shelf ) has to be removed in order to get a good sight of that cylinder. IMO it is very possible that this cylinder and/or the lever has been changed for something new on the TF. Mike or Roger will probably know if it is so..... Best Regards , Carl.
