MG MGF Technical - Clutch Slave Cylinder Kaput!

Hi All,

I suppose it had to happen and it did.
Found a nice wet patch under the engine bay last night. The clutch slave cylinder has gone KAPUT!

Took it out and apart and need to get some bits for it.
The slave cylinder is a LOCKHEED model LB06MZ042AD unit. I think it's part #CS1706KS C/SLAVE .8 MG F
All I need is the little rubber seal inside.
I know the rover "Kit-repair clutch slave cylinder" part is #UUB100180.

1: Does anyone know in which other (if any) car these kits (or complete slave) are used in. LandRover maybe?

2: Does anyone know a generic replacement seal that I can get over the counter at any good brake place.

3: What is the after market complete unit for sale?
"Sallie, Wilts" (I think) had bought one some time ago for 50GBP in a autoshop?

Cheers,
Branko.

There is a good chance that the Landrover Freelander will be exactly the same Branko :o)

Hi Branko, You're correct in thinking. I did manage to purchase a complete unit from our local car spares shop. Hubby was able to fit in couple of hours at home on our front drive so not too difficult of a job.

Branko, whilst I have not had mine apart, I would imagine that if you popped down to BGT in Hawthorn and spoke to Derry he would sell you a seal for the cylinder. Just take your dismantled cylinder and seal with you so that he can check the size. This is what I would do.

I'm getting my better half to go to a seal supplier in Bundoora this morning and see if they can match it.
Should only be a few dollars if they can.
If they can't then I'll see about BGT.

These slaves (No, not the wife!) also have a mesh filter in the base of the barrel, which I can clean but I can't see how to get it out to really give it a good lookin' at.

I will know today how my missus went with the seal.

Many thanks for all your replies.

Cheers,
Branko.

I rang the Rover dealer and they quoted $270 for a new clutch slave cylinder. Then I got them to give me a price for just the seal, and was quoted at $14!!
Man, just for a simple common rubber seal.

As I was at work, I asked my wife to do the running around for the seal today. I sent her to a couple of local places but they could not help. At the third place (ABS Brake and Clutch in Greensborough), she got there and by that time had developed a headache. The guy there found the seal for the slave unit and put it on the piston for her. She asked him how much she owed him and he said "nothing, just take it."
I think he felt sorry for her after she said that she was running around chasing "stupid parts" for her husband and it has given her a headache.

Wow!, now thats what I call great customer service.

(I'll get her to bake some of her great Choc and Rasberry muffins and drop them off to the blokes there).

Tomorrow morning I'll be putting the slave cylinder back in and then Vfroom ,Vfroom Vfroooooom.

Who said MGF's were expensive to fix!!

:-)

For those interested, The Job, she is done!

All went well. Cleaned up slave and put new seal in.
I felt the Master was being neglected, so I striped apart that as well and clean it up. The 2 seals in the master where OK so put them back.

Bled the system and now she's a goer again!!
Overall a relatively simple DIY job to do.

Branko - does the seal that you eventually used have a part number? Would be useful for others in future if they could identify and order the part that you've found works so well :o)

Rob,
the guy at the brake place put the seal on the piston for my missus. When I got it back, at the time, I saw no reason to take it off. I would like to think any good brake place will be able to match a simple seal.
Just bring along the original seal and maybe unit as well. They are the professionals.

Cheers,
Branko.

True enough, thanks Branko :o)
