MG MGF Technical - Clutch Squeak
Hi all, My car has developed a really annoying squeak when the clutch is depressed. I thought it was coming from the coiled return spring but after liberally dowsing it in WD40 the squeak is still there. Frustrated I gave everything a little squirt with WD40 but the squeak still remains. If anyone has any ideas they would be much appreciated. Cheers Andy |

Hi, Yes, mine did and at the 12k service the dealer, much to my surprise, greased it into silence. I get an occasional squeak now and again. I can only suggest something a little more manly than WD40, try to get some grease into the pedal pivot mechanism. Regards, Kes. |

lol, who says WD40 isn't manly! |

I cured mine with WD40, but I did have to be upside down in the drivers seat in order to gain access to the clutch lever pivot. 'Til this day, my neighbours think I like my MGF.....just a little too much, lol. Matt. |

I had the same problem and cured it by spraying white spray grease on the pedal linkage. A bit awkward to get at mind, you have to be a bit of a contortionist ! |

I've had a go with the grease but still the squeak persists, it's frustrating to say the least. Anyway I notice a couple of things while I had my head under the dash. Firstly have an assistant on hand to pull you out when you find yourself stuck head first in the foot well. Also I noticed there was a plastic/rubber grommet in one of the holes where the return spring goes but not in the other, is this normal? Also the spring seemed a little bend where it attaches to the pedal. Is the spring an of the shelf item or would it have to be specifically ordered from Rover? Many Thanks Andy |
