MG MGF Technical - Cold Start Problems on MGF 1.8 VVC
I've just bought the car in the summer, has been running excellently and had no problems since now. It takes me nearly 10-15 minutes to start it engine turns but just doesn't want to start. MGF 1.8 VVC p/1997 Any help would be appreciated. Thanx |

Check your battery. If it still has the origional unit, then it is getting very old, and may not be pumping out enough power to make the plugs fire. Replace it with a new one. |

Could well be the plug leads and or plugs themselves particularly if tey are the original items. The VVC with it's rather long ignition leads is a little prone to damp start problems and with the recent changes in climate this would be one of my suspects. had a prob with a audi which would start no prob when hot but a nightmare when cold. turned out to be that the plus were well worn and the plug gap was to big for the ignition to cope with. hope this helps |

Mohammed, Similar problem myself the first winter I owned the car... as an interim solution, laying a lump of wood over the boot vents at night seems to help (particularily if it's wet)... for me, it turned out to be 'cheap' plugs... once replaced with recommended plugs (four times as expensive), the starting problem disappeared ;-) Col |

Hi Mohammed, try going through the cold/wet start problem trouble shooting guide here: http://www.mgf.ultimatemg.com/group2/common_problems/wet_starting.htm Usually, the commonest culprit on a VVC are the ignition leads... Good luck |
