MG MGF Technical - coolant level

Hello ( again )

Just got the car back from its 36000 mile service.I have noticed that the coolant level is about an inch above the weld seam on the expansion bottle. My question is does this matter or will it put more pressure on the system ?

Just paranoid thats all.

The tank cap is designed to let out pressure if it gets to high, so you shouldn't have anything to worry about- however you may come back to your car and find coolent on the floor, especially if it's parked facing uphill - this is nothing to worry about as long as it is comming from the cap and due to execive water in the system.

Thanks for that Will.

On this one Will and I are in complete agreement!

The workshop manual does warn quite clearly that the expansion tank should NOT be over filled...

"CAUTION: The coolant must not exceed the expansion tank flange."

Just got my one back after the 60mth service.I went straight to the boot to check the level and it too was about an inch above the seam. Incidently on our rover 214 they fill it up to the same level also.
