MG MGF Technical - Coolant problems

Hello,

Please please help, I have a number of questions and not sure if they are related. My first problem is that I seem to be re-filling water+anti freeze into the radiator (situated to the right of the oil stick) every 2-3 weeks, is this normal?? Also I was advised a few months ago to replace the coolant pipes under the car, could this be leaking?? My final query is that my air con unit appears to be leaking, on hot sunny days I look briefly across at the passenger footwell and see leaking from that area. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Regards
James.

Your Air-Con drain pipe is blocked.

very lightly if you were warned about the underbody pipes, they need replacing before you accidently run out of coolant and blow the headgasket.

Very possibly as Will says James. Also have the radiator thoroughly inspected as these corrode out too :o(

Also, if your car is over 7 years old, check all the engine hoses - you can find that the hoses can weep past the jubilee clips or even split...

The air con drip is just the condensation - this is usually just deposited on the road, but here, as Geoff says, the drain pipe is either blocked or has become disconnected.

There are lips on the drain pipe outlet to prevent the ingress of water. I found the lips stuck together with build debris. It is now an Annual Service check item.
There had been some dampness in the footwell but last August we went to the Switzerland MGCC Meet in Zug with the ACon continuous for two days by which time we had a paddling pool.

I has loss from pipes under the car, at first it was small and kept an eye on it every day until the day it went totally and blew my head G off along with a new cylinder head and a £2500 bill. Suggest get it checked and fixed cheaper in the long run and I would never let it happen again.

Allready great comments, but could add the following: 'check the plasic bleeding screw at the front, above the radiator'

No guys, didn't mention it 'cause I was stuck down in Berlin 2 years ago, but I saw one failing yesterday evening.

Kind regards,
Erik
