MG MGF Technical - Coolant temp

This is not for my car but for a neighbours MGF!

The scenario:

Temp gauge used to show consistant reading half way up the dial (normal).

After HG replacement (couple of weeks ago)temperature reads low, about 1/4 on the dial.

Thinking it might be a sender problem we replaced both brown and blue senders but temp gauge still reads low.

Everything else seems to be fine, fan come in after idling for 10mins or so.

Any ideas for the gauge.....?

Temperature sender - or the sensor is sitting in a pocket of air... =8-O

Thanks Rob

Mmmm, already fitted a new sender and there seemed to be plenty of coolant around it..... but it might be worth a re-bleed.

One other possibility - the loom plug connections are dirty, or the wires have been damaged... I'd check out the possibility of air first due to the unfortunate consequences if left uncaught.

Good point Rob,

I had sprayed the connections with a good dollop of contact cleaner but might be worth a closer inspection. First port of call will be a system bleed though. Oh joy!

Hmmm, mine is playin this game also after a top end rebuild, ive tried re bleedin the system over and over, replaced all the sensors the wires and even tried another dash so now going for an aux temp gauge on the pillar!!!

My gauge goes p to a quarter and then drops to nothin several times, no real links to speed or outside temp in its behavior so im a bit lost

I re-bled the system yesterday no air locks. I then stuck a multimeter on the sensor and the resistance was actually a bit low for the reading on the temperature probe...! The dash meter still reads low. It could be another duff sensor, it's not un-known, but why are there two separate instances after a top end re-build. Hmmm

Bad earth somewhere perhaps?
