MG MGF Technical - Couple of Q's

Apologies for probably silly questions!!

I gave a lift home to 2 very drunk people last night, and they managed to knock the rear view mirror off.
Tried sticking back on with Super Glue but it just wouldn't stick!!! I thought that it sticks everything.

Secondly if i turn my heater control knob more than setting 2 the whole car starts shaking and it sounds like it's gonna blow up!

Any help wouold be greatly appreciated (telling me not to give a lift to 2 drunk friends doesn't qualify....lol)

TIA
John

Q1 Loctite do a specific rear view mirror adhesive kit. Get one of those and it will work a treat. Try Halfords or a good DIY store.

Q2 can't help

Q3 It's a TWO seater car. Hope the two friends were women.... (cheeky)

I expect you could have some leaves or other debris in the heater ducts. That will be vibrating in the air flow and shaking the dash and making the air in the car vibrate too.

Drunk friends are usually best carried in the boot. Check the weight limits before putting one on a boot rack.

thx for the quick replies.
Guess i'll have to remove those 2 drunk girls from the air vents then!!

On the back of the mirror theree is a little flat metal square which slides out of the mirror mount. Take this out and glue it in place properly ( make sure you get it the right way up) Then when it is dry slide the mirror over it.This makes it easier to fix as you dont have the extra weight of the mirror when the glue is setting. Had the same thing to fix last month when i had to sleep in my car when i was camping as it was freezing, managed to knock the mirror off with my feet when trying to get comftable. Sleeping in an F is not recomended by the way, woke up with a very bad back!!

I've also had to take 2 passengers before and both were too scared to get in the boot (im not surprised) had one on the passenger seat and one in the foot well!! again, not recomended!

Shows how to remove the mirror. This is part of a gallery that show how to strip out the windscreen trim (if you're interested). Surf to:

Click on REBUILD and then the WINDSCREEN TRIM gallery towards the bottom.

GC, I know the F is at the more practical end of the sports car market but the boot's still TINY! How the feck did you propose to get one of your friends in there without dismembering them? Scared? I'm not surprised they were scared!

Tales are welcome from anyone who has travelled in the boot of an MGF or transported any other (living) person in the boot!

Could be some bizarre new MGF based form of S&M...

Sorry, this isn't very technical is it.

I'm not talking about sticking them together!!!(Videos can be ordered £15 +P+P)
LMAO,,,,thanks SF, Tim , Russ

I also have had 2 passengers (female) in my F. It never occured to me to put one in the boot.

Can the boot be opened from inside? You see I wouldn't feel happy travelling in there unless I had some means of escape (not that I could fit in the boot of an F anyway).

I agree. Stick 'em under the bonnet. Less likely to get burnt on the engine too.

John, next time you have TWO drunk girls to carry in your MG, please call me (specialy if there are really pretty, and I'll come -from Spain i think in a couple of days i'll be right there!!!!-) and I'll help you carriyng mine!
Spinder00

MMM, I remember... some time ago, in my first week as TF owner, a MALE friend of mine, asked me to carry him and his girlfriend in my new TF. When I show them it had only two seats, so it was imposible, he ask her to go in a taxi...

The end of the story is that I have NO MORE this friend, cause his grilfriend decided going with me for a ride (he he he, my english is quite awful, but I think it's a good joke!!!!) in the shiny red TF...
Spinder00

Well done Spinder00 I like your style. Mike

Diggers. i have a very small mate, which for him is pretty unfortunate as whenever we run out of seats in a car he's in the boot. Makes sense to me, as the rest of us are alot bigger than him. However, he doesn't see it like that.Nevermind.

Well,
1 week, 2 Loctite kits and 3 adhesive pads later icalled into Rover Parts and asked if they had a kit and was informed NO it has to be done in the workshop and that those rear view kits wouldn't work (i coulda told them that!)
Apparantly they use a special bonding agent and that nothing else would work, and they couldn't sell it to me because it comes in a big can.
So £17.50 + all the above kits later my rear view mirror is fixed.
Driving for a week with a mirror swinging round your neck makes u appreciate how much u use it.

I am interested how the others here managed to stick there's back on!!

PS No more drunken lifts......well how could u refuse 2 drunken girls??!!
John

Hi John

I too had a similar problem - tried all sorts of products from Halfords, Loctite etc but they all failed within a few days.

I then decided to drop into a local windscreen replacement depot (Auto Windscreens) and they glued the mirror back on while I waited (5 mins) and I've not had a problem since - plus they only charged me £3.00.

I suggest you look in the Yellow pages and just drop in and ask them to fit it for you.

PS forgot to add i purchased a T-shirt and a really cool keyring (shaped like the petrol cap) only problem is the 2-3 weeks waiting time.
I woulda bought a TF160 if my plastic would have taken it!!
Yes i am a salesmans dream, please don't spam me with double glazing offers, i now have 2 conservatories, triple windows and i live in a 1 bedroom flat.....still, the crazy paved driveway may help!!!!!
