MG MGF Technical - CVT failure...?

Low mileage, well maintained, lady owned and driven MG TF.. Suddenly developed a severe judder from the transmission. OKI in P & N but select drive or reverse and it engages with an almighty jerk and drives as though you are trying to climb over 6 inch rocks...!

My belief is that the CVT box has failed but before I venture down such a drastic path, does anyone else have any thoughts...? Has this happened to you..?

Many thanks,

Mark.

Seriously terminal.....! The box has dismantled itself.

Anyone got a spare CVT box for a TF..?

Check Ebay listing

I have dealt with the seller before. No problems but ask items about the item.

The item can be picked up I see from the ad but you probably have to arrange pickup via a courier.

Is there no one in Australia who cannot repair your existing box or is it truly 'mangled'?

The existing box is absolutely mangled....!

I've emailed Paul Depper about this box last week but as yet, he's not even replied.... :-(

Any other offers..?

Another gear box on ebay. UK supplier, less price than the German ones and looks in good nick.

Part of anemail from Aussie parts supplier which may be of interest down under

Now, back to the CVT transmission….
The CVT auto in the BMW New Mini is same transmission and you can get one repaired in Australia for about $2,500 + fitting labour + tax .
ATA also do a beef up of vulnerable parts with 2 years warranty.
See http://www.autotransaustralia.com.au/

In my opinion, this may be seen to be a more expensive solution but buying a used CVT with no warranty plus international air freight does have its frustrations and dangers.
