MG MGF Technical - Dead F
Hello All, Have a starting prob. with the F Was driving it on Friday, with more stop and starts, and no problems, but as i tried to start it today, it just turns but do fire up. It smels of petrol after some turns, so sure it get that, but where do i start to look?. For some strange reason, it seems that it can not superlook anymore, but don't know if that can relate to it. regards to all Kjeld |

Hi, Is the starting motor turning over? Is it foggy or damp where you are? Is it a VVC or 1.8? I had this problem with an F on a damp, misty day. Thought it was damp in the coils but replaced ignition leads and not had the problem since. |

Hi Leigh, For the record, the car is a 2000 MKII MPI, and yes the starter and engine was turning, and i could smell the petrol, so took the engine cover of, to try and see if there where sparks from the plugs, and then i found the reason. The lead from the ign. coil to the distributer, had departed from the distributer. Have never seen that on any cars before, and find it very strange to happen, but the plug in the distributer, and the little girl was running fine again, great Thanks for your interest in my (small) problem Kjeld |

Hi Kjeld, may be you worked it loose when getting in the new exhaust downpipe recently ? Just an idea and however, nice you got it fixed quickly. Cheers Dieter |
Dieter |
Hi Dieter, I think you are spot on. Realy twisted the engine to get the 4-2-1 in place. That was hard work. There is a other suspect, as you will see in a PM i send you. regards Kjeld |
