MG MGF Technical - Diff seals

I have oil leaking from the differential / driveshaft seals, what has to be removed or disconnected to change them?

Thanks

Alastair,

You have mail from me

Thanks Bruce, the diagrams are a great help.

Do you know if the service tool for fitting the new seal is really necessary, I have used sockets or the old seal for similar jobs in the past?

Cheers

I think you'll find that there are two types of drive shaft seal, and early and a late model version. Be careful the one you choose they are NOT interchangable!!!!

I also understand that this is a DIY job and should take no longer than 30 minutes per wheel BUT as Tim says make sure you have the correct seals first - the early *F*s were prone to leaks in this area and that is one of the reasons for the change of design to the drive shafts on later cars.

Sorry Alastair, never done the job myself (thank the Lord) so don't know. Anyone?

You can tell if you have an old or new seal by looking at the CV joint, ones with the new seal have a grove machined into the CV a round it's circumferance at the gear box side, going on the diagram that Bruce has sent me.
